Hi Tops by John Climenhage, 2004 oil on panel 16″x16″

Formerly the Princess Theatre, the Tiz-It Theatre, and the Paris Café, the iconic Chinese restaurant Hi Tops closed its doors in 2013. Its classic neon sign was a landmark on George Street. Public Energy’s Executive Director Bill Kimball managed to save the sign and it lived on at The Spill until the bar closed in 2017. It subsequently went to Hot Belly Mamas, which has also closed and been purchased by a developer.
