Two manufacturing companies have had a major impact on Peterborough since the turn of the 20th century – General Electric and Quaker Oats. They have brought economic prosperity to the region, but also hardship in the form of industrial injury and death to many workers.
Quaker is still operating. One of Peterborough’s most charming, distinctive qualities is the smell of cinnamon or raspberry jam filling the air as Quaker’s cereals are made.
